Homeopathy is a system of natural health care that has been in worldwide use for over 200 years. Although it is most popular in
Homeopathy from the Greek word, homoeo (meaning similar) and pathos (meaning suffering). It is a system of medicine, a modality based on treating like with like. This medical science falls under the umbrella of holistic medicine. It is its own system. The founder of homeopathy was Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (1755–1843), who was a German physician and chemist. Dr. Hahnemann expanded an ancient idea of the “Law of Similars” into a complete medical system. Many ancient healers used this idea. The Law of Similars is about when a natural substance can cause symptoms in a healthy person, that same substance can be used to cure similar symptoms in a person who is ill. This is also known as the principle that “like cures like.” Homeopathy treats illnesses and inherent constitutional problems by using the “like cures like” principle. Homeopathy treats illnesses and inherent constitutional problems by using the “like cures like” principle. This is in contrast to the “Law of Sameness” (isopathy), in which is prepared from the substance that is responsible for a disease, like the use of pollens for allergies. In homeopathy, it is the matching of the symptoms, and not the disease, that one seeks.
They say that the first person to use the homeopathic principle was Moses. “The Hebrews came to Marah [Hebrew for bitterness], and they could not drink the water as it was bitter. Some complained: ‘What shall we drink?’ Moses asked G-d what to do and he told him to throw a bitter bark into the bitter water; and the water turned sweet.” Exodus, 15, 23–26.
